Time

This one is a bit of a cheat. It was the first haiku I wrote for my 2019 one haiku a day challenge on 1 January last year.

Dawn’s promise of time

stretches luxuriously.

Mindlessly wasted.

It originally started “The promise of time” but I changed it today to bring a little bit of a time element into it. Having done that I find myself favouring the original version.

It had several iterations:

Time’s promise stretches.

Early morning potential.

Weekend gone too fast.

or swap out any of the parts for:

Time’s promise yawns with

early morning potential.

Squandered on FaceBook.

None of them quite capture all I wanted to portray about time as a resource that runs through the timer’s hourglass whether we pay attention or not. The first comes closest to that, but I rather like the flow and current social commentary of the others. Which one do you prefer?
